warm fuzzy

June 15, 2009

Twice in the last week I’ve spoken to Dad and he sounds SO GOOD! The palliative care doctor has put him on steroids and his appetite has improved enormously as well as the colour coming back to his face and he’s generally feeling stronger. Getting over a round of radiation has also helped him feel better too.

I just can’t believe how much stronger he sounds, so much like his old self. I know that it won’t last forever but I’m just so pleased to hear him sounding well and happy.

Miss A and I are heading up to spend a week with Mum and Dad during the school hols. I’m looking forward to it so much!  I want to spend as much quality time with them as I can, the fragility of life really hits you over the head when someone is terminally ill. Make ever day count and don’t sweat the small stuff… really, it’s true.

Stay strong Daddy, I love you.

glorious days

June 13, 2009

I love winter! Truly love it! I know that living in Qld means our winter is milder than some places, I haven’t seen snow here but I’ve lived in places where it gets below zero but I still love it.

Today was an awesome Brisbane winter day – chilly in the shade but toasty warm in the sun, no hint of the icy wind we’ve had for the last few days. We spent almost all day in a park with a friend of ours who we haven’t seen for a while. We got there early to secure a table near a BBQ and I set up all the stuff then sat reading a book with the sun warming my back while Miss A and my wonderful husband went for a walk around the park and checked out the ducks and various other water birds at the pond. Miss A was very excited because she saw a pelican. I think he must have lost his way up the river somewhere!

We were there for a good 5 or more hours when we relinquished the table to another family and went our separate ways. We stopped to do grocery shopping on the way home and I got to have a pat and cuddle of two gorgeous labradors who were waiting with a teenager outside the shop for her Mum. Such beautiful and loving dogs. I want to have one again one day :)   But then again, I would cheerfully have one of every dog on the planet if I could LOL.
