Ego Surfing and Such

November 5, 2008

Do you ever Ego Surf? That’s when you look up your own name in a search engine and see what comes up. I do it now and then but mostly to see if my business stuff comes up or if I need to do more SEO (Search Engine Optimising) work.  However, it is interesting to see the people out there with the same name as me and what they do – there is a teacher in the US who is held in high regard and is talked about all over the place; there is an artist who does lovely work; a doctor in Europe who is married to a man with the same name as my husband (I kid you not! That freaked me out a little. LOL); oh and a uni student in the US who can’t spell and had a very hip My Space page. Do some Ego Surfing and see what you find.

In addition to that, I also sometimes search on names of family members, old friends or colleagues just to see what is out there.  Some people come up with absolutely nothing and I find that most intriguing. Is there no-one else in the whole world with their name? Or perhaps they just don’t do anything that is mentioned on the net.  Odd, don’t you think?  Today I searched on my brother’s name, for no particular reason, just bored I guess. Well there is lots of information about a man with the same name who is a noted Christian author and radio announcer – that’s pretty far removed from my brother I can tell you.

Ho hum, back to playing around.

Ah, the 80s

February 11, 2008

So when I was in town yesterday I noticed a couple of young guys with hair like something out of Pseudo Echo. Hmmm, I thought, you are so gonna be embarrassed by that hair in later times.

Then I saw another young man with his suit jacket sleeves pushed up his forearms… oh well I thought, it is hot.

Then I’m sitting on the bus on the way home, blissfully gazing out the window as you do and a girl gets off and walked past the window where I was looking… I gave her a glance… blinked and thought “what the?” and looked again… yes, she was indeed wearing a bubble skirt.

All the pieces slammed into place and I checked myself over to make sure that my hair wasn’t big and I wasn’t wearing a high  school uniform.  Oh my God, have I missed the 80s revival or something?

There are some fashions that just really should stay in the past, we moved on for a reason people!
